At The Ginstitute, above The Portobello Star, settle in for a spirited 2.5-hour tutored journey through gin's colourful and often miserable past. Over cocktails, your gin instructor brings together the drink's origins, London's Gin Craze and its place in British drinking culture.
Then discover what you like in your glass. In a group of no more than 12, smell and taste individual botanical distillates before choosing the flavours for your own gin.
Leave with a personal 70cl bottle: a taste of your time on Portobello Road, made to your preferences. Your recipe is saved for future paid reorders to keep your own bespoke Gin blend well stocked for the future.

Meeting and pickup
Please arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled experience. The company is located within The Portobello Star, 171 Portobello Road, London, W11 2DY. As this is a hosted group experience, we recommend arriving on time to ensure you don't miss the introduction.
What to expect
Join us for an in-depth journey through gin’s colourful and checkered past; from its creation by the Dutch, its journey across the sea with William of Orange, to Hogarth & his gin lane, finishing with the golden era of gin. Once sufficiently briefed, your Ginstructor will guide you through the blending process as you nose your way through an eclectic range of pure botanical distillates and choosing your favourites to create your own bespoke blend of gin. You’ll be lubricated by a multitude of our favourite gin cocktails along the way before leaving the session with a bottle of your own personal blend to take home and enjoy. Those recipes are kept on file so you never have to be out of stock of your own bespoke recipe again.
