Discover the only place inside Shinjuku Gyoen where you can enjoy a kimono rental experience.

Located in the historic tea house Rakuu-tei, right by the beautiful Japanese garden, our shop offers an authentic setting unlike anywhere else.

Stroll freely through the peaceful garden in traditional attire, and capture memorable moments in one of Tokyo’s most iconic spots.

What's Included

Free time to explore the garden (final kimono return by 4:00 PM).
Full kimono rental, including obi belt, tabi socks, traditional sandals, and a Japanese handbag.
Basic hair styling for women is included. Additional styles are available as paid optional extras.
Reception, kimono selection, professional dressing, and hair styling (women only) take about 1 hour.
The entrance fee to Shinjuku Gyoen is not included and must be purchased separately.
Photography plan not included: A photography option is not currently available.
*The kimono must be returned by 4:00 PM, allowing you ample time to enjoy your experience.
*All guests are required to present a valid passport or government-issued photo ID at check-in.
There is no restroom inside the building. Please use the restroom outside before coming to our shop.

Please search for “Rakuu-tei Kouichi Store (Kimono Rental & Souvenir Shop)” on Google Maps before your visit. The kimono rental shop is located inside the tea room Rakuu-tei within Shinjuku Gyoen. You will need to walk about 10-15 minutes on foot from the Shinjuku Gyoen's Shinjuku-Gate.

What to expect

Authentic Kimono Experience Inside Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden –
A Unique Cultural Journey

Founded 174 years ago, Kouichi Store is a long-established kimono maker dedicated to preserving and sharing Japan’s rich textile traditions.

The experience begins at the historic tea room *Rakuu-tei Kouichi Store*, located inside the serene Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. Upon arrival, our staff will guide you through selecting your kimono from a range of seasonal designs.

The reception, kimono selection, dressing, and simple hairstyling for women take approximately 60 minutes.
Once dressed, you are free to explore the beautiful garden at your own pace in your kimono.

Please note that the final kimono return time is 4:00 PM.
To enjoy the garden comfortably, we recommend booking an earlier time slot.

Our professional dressing team will assist you with everything you need—obi belt, tabi socks, traditional sandals, and a Japanese-style handbag—ensuring a smooth and authentic experience.

After your stroll through the picturesque garden, please return to Rakuu-tei Kouichi Store for kimono removal.
