Jinvali Dam, also known as Zhinvali Dam, is a large hydroelectric dam located on the Aragvi River in eastern Georgia, about 70 km from Tbilisi. Built in the 1980s, it created the stunning Zhinvali Reservoir, known for its vivid turquoise waters and scenic mountain backdrop. It's a popular stop along the Georgian Military Highway, offering panoramic views and close proximity to the historic Ananuri Fortress.
Church of the Assumption: Beautiful 17th-century church with carvings and faded frescoes. Defensive Towers: Climb the Sheupovari Tower for panoramic views over the Zhinvali Reservoir. Inner Courtyard: Explore remains of walls, small chapels, and pathways. Scenic Views: Perfect spot for photography, especially with the lake and mountains as a backdrop. Tips for Visitors: Wear comfortable shoes: There’s uneven ground and stairs if you plan to climb the towers. Dress modestly if entering churches (headscarves for women may be expected; usually provided at the door). Bring water and snacks: There are small vendors and cafés nearby, but not always open. Early morning or late afternoon is best for light and fewer crowds.

Reaching the church involves a steep 1.5-hour hike from Stepantsminda, offering trekkers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. Alternatively, visitors can opt for a 4WD vehicle ride to the site. Once atop, the panoramic vistas of Mount Kazbek and the Caucasus range are truly awe-inspiring
