    Nami Island

Nami Island got its name from a local legend that General Nami is buried under a mound on its northern hill. The island was created in 1944 when the Cheongpyeong Dam raised the water level of the North Han River. In 1965, Minn Byung-do, a public figure, bought the land and transformed the sandy area into the beautiful island seen today by planting various trees. Initially, it was developed as a general resort and known as a recreational spot. However, in April 2000, it rebranded as Nami Island Inc., focusing on cultural, artistic, and ecological experiences. The island gained international fame as the filming location for the popular Korean drama "Winter Sonata" in 2002, attracting tourists not just from Korea, but also from Japan, Taiwan, China, and Southeast Asia.
