Looking for a unique and accessible adventure near Mt. Fuji?
Mount Houei is the perfect spot! Formed by the great eruption of 1707, Houei is Mt. Fuji’s newest and largest crater, offering visitors a chance to walk right along the rim of a real volcano. The trail starts at the Fujinomiya Fifth Station and takes just about an hour, making it easy even for beginners, families, and anyone who wants a taste of volcanic hiking—no special equipment needed.
At nearly 2,700 meters above sea level, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views: gaze up at Mt. Fuji’s iconic summit, look down into the dramatic Houei Crater, and on a clear day, see all the way to Suruga Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The landscape is truly out of this world, with red and black volcanic rocks and sweeping ash slopes—perfect for memorable photos.
The trail is well-maintained and not too steep, so you can relax and enjoy the journey, whether you’re an outdoor lover or just looking for a fun, easy-going adventure.
