This tour, of my own making, is a visit to an unknown, but fascinating, Lisbon... discover some of the extraordinary archaeological sites of the Portuguese capital. The story is where you least expect it. Let's go to a shopping center, a bank, museums, churches, and even, imagine, a public restroom, to discover relevant traces of the past of the Portuguese capital. We will see, for example, the remains of a 13th-century wall, Roman tanks used for the production of a famous sauce throughout the empire, and even vestiges of a 17th-century house. We also toured very famous public spaces that hide enormous secrets.
I will try, also including a visit to an archaeological site, which gathers vestiges from the Iron Age to the eighteenth century. The visit to this center is dependent on the availability of the location (by reservation, a request that I will always make). In this location, visits are conducted as an internal guide (45 minutes duration).
the guide will be next to the statue of D. José, in Praça do Comércio, with a green t-shirt, and a bottle
We started our visit in the heart of Lisbon. In a square, where so many important moments in the history of Portugal happened. Here, we will do an introduction to our tour, and general information, from a historical/archaeological perspective on Lisbon
Once again, we will have to go underground in the city, this time to the "catacombs" of a Museum, to discover another century-old secret....
Recently, near a church, very important in the history of Lisbon and Portugal, and with a unique style, something very surprising, and let's say, terrifying, was discovered, which still raises many questions for historians...
One of the most media-covered squares had completely different functions, for several centuries... With the help of images reconstructed by academics, we will better understand what this place was, and what it was like.
More secrets come from the depths of Lisbon, this time from a Bank... many impressive remains dating back 2000/2,500 years. This visit will be included in the tour, as long as the location confirms its availability. It will be the only space where the visit will be made with another guide (archaeologist).
A church that has great symbolic value for any Catholic in the world, has a small space that makes it even more special in the world.
Let's get to know the remains of the ancient Roman Theater of Lisbon.
This area of Lisbon houses some historical landmarks... we go to a parking lot, the past. And, if time allows us, still see the historic Casa dos Bicos
