Your tour begins in the beautiful alpine town of Queenstown. As we head out of the city, your guide will set the scene for the day’s adventure, highlighting local landmarks and points of interest along the way.
We journey through the scenic Kawarau Gorge, passing the historic Kawarau Suspension Bridge—home of the world’s first commercial bungy jump—and the Roaring Meg Lookout. Time and lighting permitting, we may stop for your first stunning photo opportunity of the day.
As we exit the gorge, we arrive in the fruit and wine region of Cromwell. We pass rows of vineyards and orchards before crossing Lake Dunstan and continuing along the shoreline toward the Lindis Pass.
One of only three alpine road passes through the Southern Alps, Lindis Pass offers dramatic scenery and elevated views. We’ll stop at the lookout for photos and to take in the vast, open landscape.
Crossing into the Mackenzie Basin, keep your eyes peeled for iconic Merino sheep roaming the open plains. In the small town of Omarama, we pause for a rest break—with time to try what we think is New Zealand’s best creamy chicken pie!
As we turn west, Lake Pukaki comes into view—one of New Zealand’s most striking glacial lakes, known for its vivid turquoise colour. With Aoraki / Mt Cook towering in the distance, we’ll stop for photos and enjoy commentary on the area’s significance and its role in films like The Lord of the Rings.
You’ll have 2.5 to 3 hours of free time to explore the park with some suggested options: – Hike the Kea Point Track or Tasman Glacier View Walk for stunning scenery and photos. – Take a scenic flight with optional glacier landing for a once-in-a-lifetime aerial experience. No matter your choice, your guide will assist with drop-offs and pickups and ensure you’re well looked after.
Near Queenstown, we often visit Jackson Orchards to sample seasonal fruit, fresh juices, ice cream, or handmade pies—or simply enjoy a leg stretch in the sunshine.
We arrive back in Queenstown in the early evening. Your guide will ensure you’re dropped off safely, with great memories and incredible photos from a truly unforgettable day.
