Departing Arusha early in the morning after breakfast, you embark on a scenic 2-hour drive to Tarangire National Park, passing through Maasai villages and open savannahs. Arriving mid-morning, you enter the park and begin your first game drive, immediately immersed in a landscape of towering baobab trees and the winding Tarangire River. The park teems with wildlife—large herds of elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, and predators like lions and leopards. Around midday, you pause at a picnic site for lunch with sweeping views of the bush. The afternoon offers more game viewing, often in the golden light that highlights the dry plains and acacia woodlands. As the sun begins to set, you exit the park and head to your lodge or tented camp nearby, where you enjoy a warm dinner and relax under the stars, listening to the distant sounds of the African wilderness.
After an early breakfast at your lodge near Tarangire, you set off around 7:00 AM for a scenic drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area, passing through rural landscapes, bustling markets, and Maasai villages. Arriving at the Ngorongoro gate by late morning, you ascend the crater rim, where cooler air and lush forest contrast sharply with the dry Tarangire plains. By midday, you descend 600 meters into the Ngorongoro Crater for an unforgettable game drive. The crater floor is a wildlife haven, home to lions, elephants, rhinos, buffaloes, zebras, hippos, and flamingos on Lake Magadi. A picnic lunch is enjoyed at a scenic spot near a hippo pool. The afternoon continues with more wildlife sightings in the open grasslands and acacia woodlands. By late afternoon, you ascend the crater and head to your lodge on the rim or nearby in Karatu, arriving in time for a warm dinner and sunset views over the highlands.
After an early breakfast at your lodge near Lake Manyara, you enter the park around 8:00 AM for a morning game drive through its lush groundwater forest and open floodplains. You explore the diverse habitats of this compact but vibrant park, spotting baboons, tree-climbing lions, elephants, hippos, and colorful birdlife along the lake’s edge. Around midday, you enjoy a picnic lunch at a scenic viewpoint overlooking the lake. After lunch, you begin your journey back, passing through Mto wa Mbu and the Great Rift Valley escarpment. Depending on your travel plans, you either continue to Arusha for a relaxing evening at a hotel or head directly to Kilimanjaro International Airport, arriving by late afternoon or early evening in time for your flight back home, with the final memories of your Tanzanian safari fresh in mind.
