Your safari adventure begins with a pick-up from your hotel in Arusha around 8:00 am. After a briefing with your guide, you'll embark on a scenic drive towards the Great Rift Valley. Your first destination is the lush Lake Manyara National Park. In the afternoon enter the park for a game drive. This compact gem is famous for its unique tree-climbing lions, vast elephant herds, and flamingos that seasonally paint the lakeshore pink. The groundwater forest, fed by underground springs, provides a beautiful and contrasting entrance to your safari. After your game drive, you'll ascend the Rift Valley wall to the fertile highlands of Karatu. You'll check into the Marera Valley Lodge, which offers stunning views over a coffee plantation and the surrounding valleys. Enjoy a relaxing evening, a delicious dinner and a good night's rest in preparation for the journey to the Serengeti.
After an early breakfast, depart towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. You'll make a brief stop at the Ngorongoro Crater viewpoint for a spectacular photo opportunity of the world's largest inactive volcanic caldera. Continue your drive, descending into the plains of the Serengeti. In the mid-day, enter the Serengeti National Park at the Naabi Hill Gate. Here, you'll complete formalities and can stretch your legs while enjoying your first vast view of the endless plains. You'll then continue your journey north, with an en-route game drive. The landscape will gradually change from open plains to more wooded, hilly terrain as you approach the Northern Serengeti and the Mara River region. This is the heart of the action from July to October. You will go directly to the river areas to scout for any signs of gathering herds. In the evening arrive at Mara Kati Kati Tented Camp, your mobile-style camp strategically located for river crossings.
Today is entirely dedicated to the Mara River. You will have a full-day picnic lunch box to maximize your time. Witnessing a crossing requires patience. Your guide will be in contact with other drivers to locate herds gathering on the riverbanks. You may wait for hours, but the anticipation is part of the thrill. When it happens, it is pure drama. Thousands of wildebeest and zebra plunge into the river in a chaotic, thunderous frenzy, fighting strong currents and waiting crocodiles. The sound, the dust, and the sheer scale of life and death is an unforgettable spectacle. After an exhilarating day, you will begin your drive south towards the Central Serengeti (Seronera area). This region is a wildlife haven year-round due to its permanent water sources. In the evening arrive at Into Wild Africa Tented Camp, another charming tented camp that blends comfort with the raw beauty of the Serengeti. Enjoy a well-earned dinner and share stories of the day's incredible events.
Enjoy a final morning game drive in the Central Serengeti. This area is famous for its big cat populations. Explore the Seronera River Valley, a fantastic place to spot lions, leopards lounging in sausage trees, and cheetahs on the open plains. In the afternoon depart the Serengeti and drive back through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The drive is scenic, offering another chance to view wildlife and appreciate the changing landscape. You'll exit the conservation area and proceed to the coffee plantations of Karatu. In the evening check into Tloma Lodge, a beautiful farmhouse-style lodge set amidst a thriving coffee estate. The peaceful and luxurious atmosphere is a perfect contrast to the wild Serengeti. You can enjoy the pool, explore the gardens, and relax with a sundowner before a gourmet dinner.
Your final day features a true grand finale. You'll make an early descent down the steep crater walls into the Ngorongoro Crater. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a natural amphitheater teeming with over 25,000 animals. Enjoy an extensive game drive on the crater floor. The high density of predators and prey here is astounding. It is one of the best places in Africa to see the endangered black rhinoceros, as well as large pride of lions, elephants, hippos, and massive herds of buffalo and wildebeest. Have a picnic lunch at the Ngoitokitok picnic site by the hippo pool, a beautiful and unique experience. After several hours of exploration, ascend the crater rim and begin your journey back to Arusha. You will be dropped off at your preferred location in Arusha or at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) in time for your departure flight, filled with memories of river crossings and the wonders of the African wild.
