Kyoto Sake Tasting – March 26: A Sommelier-Led Experience

1 hour 15 minutes (approximately)
Offered in: English

Across seven pours guided by a certified Sake Sommelier, you'll move through the full spectrum of what sake can be: from the clean precision of a Daiginjo to the cloudy, unfiltered character of a Nigorizake, the raw intensity of a Namagenshu, all the way to an aged Jukusei-shu you almost certainly won't find on any restaurant menu. Each pour comes with context — how it's made, what makes it different, and why it tastes the way it does — so by the end of the evening you're not just enjoying sake, you're understanding it.

What to expect

Step into Kyoto's sake culture for an evening of guided discovery.
Join us for an intimate sake tasting experience designed for curious travelers — no prior knowledge needed, just an open palate.
Over approximately 75 minutes, you'll work through seven carefully chosen expressions of Japanese sake, each representing a different style or brewing tradition. We move in a natural arc — from the clean, floral elegance of a Daiginjo to the rich depth of an aged Jukusei-shu — so you can feel how dramatically sake can vary.
Along the way, you'll learn what actually makes sake different from what you've tasted before: the role of rice polishing, the difference between junmai and non-junmai, and why Kyoto's water and breweries produce something distinct.
Groups are kept small to make sure there's always room for questions.
You'll leave knowing the names, the styles, and the stories behind what's in your glass — and with a clearer sense of where to look for good sake for the rest of your trip.
