  • Split Aqueduct (Pass by)

On the way toward Salona and Klis, guests will pass near the remains of the ancient Roman aqueduct built to supply Diocletian’s Palace with fresh water. Ancient Salona

Guests will explore the ruins of ancient Salona, once the capital of the Roman province of Dalmatia and one of the most important cities on the eastern Adriatic. The guide will explain how Salona developed from an ancient settlement into a major Roman urban centre, with streets, city walls, gates, public buildings, baths, theatres and residential areas. Special attention will be given to Salona’s early Christian heritage, including cemeteries, basilicas, martyrs and bishops who made the city one of the key religious centres of the region. Depending on time and accessibility, the visit may include Manastirine, Tusculum, the Episcopal Centre, the theatre area and views of the amphitheatre. Guests will also learn how the decline of Salona and the movement of its people toward Diocletian’s Palace shaped the later history of Split. This stop offers a deeper understanding of Roman Dalmatia, early Christianity and the historical roots of the Split area.
