This private tour combines three different layers of Dalmatian history in one rich experience: Roman Salona, the strategic Klis Fortress and medieval Trogir. It is designed for travelers who want more than a simple transfer between locations, with each stop connected through history,geography and local stories.
Led by a licensed local guide and history teacher, the tour begins in Salona, once the capital of Roman Dalmatia, where guests discover the ancient city, its amphitheater, early Christian heritage and importance before the rise of Split.
The experience continues to Klis Fortress, a dramatic stronghold above Split with panoramic views and centuries of military history. Guests then pass through the Kaštela area before reaching Trogir, a beautifully preserved medieval town of stone streets, squares, churches, noble palaces and waterfront views.
This tour offers Roman archaeology, fortress scenery, medieval architecture, private transport and a flexible pace in one complete day.

Meeting and pickup
The pickup point is the bronze model of Split Old Town on the Riva promenade, close to the entrance to Diocletian’s Palace cellars and the seafront. Your driver-guide will pick you up there at the agreed time.

Split Aqueduct (Pass by)
On the way from Split toward Salona, guests will pass near the remains of the ancient Roman aqueduct built to supply Diocletian’s Palace with fresh water. This is not a scheduled walking stop, but the guide will briefly explain how water was brought from the Jadro River near Salona to the emperor’s palace in Split. This part of the drive helps connect ancient Salona, Diocletian’s Palace and the wider Roman infrastructure of the Split area.

1Ancient Salona
Guests will explore the ruins of ancient Salona, once the capital of the Roman province of Dalmatia and one of the most important cities on the eastern Adriatic. The guide will explain how Salona developed into a major Roman urban centre with city walls, gates, streets, public buildings, residential areas and an impressive amphitheatre. Special attention will be given to the Roman amphitheatre, where guests will learn about public spectacles, entertainment and the social life of a Roman provincial city. The tour also includes Salona’s early Christian heritage, with cemeteries, basilicas, martyrs and bishops who made the city an important religious centre before the rise of medieval Split. This stop gives guests a deeper understanding of Roman Dalmatia, early Christianity and the importance of Salona in the wider history of the Split region.

2Klis Fortress
Guests will visit Klis Fortress, one of the most impressive historic strongholds in Dalmatia. Located on a mountain pass above Split and Solin, the fortress offers panoramic views of the Adriatic coast, nearby islands and surrounding mountains. The guide will explain why Klis was such an important strategic point for centuries, controlling the route between the coast and the Dalmatian hinterland. Guests will walk through the fortress gates, walls, courtyards and viewpoints while learning about medieval rulers, soldiers, sieges and the long struggle for control of this key defensive position. This stop combines military history, local stories, dramatic scenery and some of the best views near Split.

Kastela (Pass by)
On the way from Klis toward Trogir, guests will pass through the Kaštela area without a scheduled stop. The guide will briefly introduce the story of the seven historic Kaštela settlements built along the bay between Split and Trogir. Guests will hear how this coastal area developed around fortified residences, local communities, vineyards and trade routes. This scenic drive adds local context to the journey and helps connect the Roman heritage of Salona, the strategic position of Klis and the medieval history of Trogir.

3Trogir
Guests will explore the historic town of Trogir, one of the most beautiful medieval towns on the Adriatic coast. Built on a small island between the mainland and Čiovo, Trogir is known for its narrow stone streets, elegant squares, noble palaces, churches and relaxed waterfront atmosphere. The guided walk begins near the North Gate and continues toward the main square, where guests will see the Cathedral of Saint Lawrence and the famous Radovan Portal from the outside, together with the town loggia, clock tower and surrounding historic buildings. The guide will explain Trogir’s development through antiquity and the Middle Ages, as well as its importance as a centre of trade, art and architecture. The tour continues through the old streets toward the waterfront promenade and the area around Kamerlengo Fortress. This final stop completes the experience by connecting Roman Salona, the defensive story of Klis and the medieval heritage of Trogir.
