The Chicago Chinatown Visitor Center proudly presents a special hands-on cultural art experience with renowned artist and educator Liping Zhang. This month’s featured workshop focuses on the traditional art of Chinese fan painting, where participants will create their own hand-painted fan using classic brush techniques and culturally rich themes.
A minimum of 4 participants is required for this experience. If the minimum is not met, the tour may be canceled, and you will receive a full refund.

What to expect
Cultural introduction to the symbols and styles used
Live demonstration by artist Liping Zhang
Guided hands-on instruction
Create your own calligraphy and painting artwork to take home
Monthly sessions are offered with rotating art themes.
While the September workshop focuses on Fan Painting, future sessions will explore a variety of traditional Chinese art forms, including:
Calligraphy– Write your name or a lucky character with brush & ink
Opera Mask Painting– Design symbolic Peking Opera masks
Chinese Brush Painting– Learn to paint bamboo, koi, plum blossoms and other classic symbols of Chinese art.
