Step away from the busy tourist areas of Tokyo into one of the city’s best-kept secrets: a nostalgic town filled with traditional shopping streets and a slower pace of life that feels worlds away from Shinjuku or Shibuya.

Pass through a traditional shopping street selling handmade snacks and crafts, before arriving at a temple famous for its wooden reliefs and a hidden Japanese garden that few ever find.

We’ll also enjoy a Japanese lunch!

Nearby is a former merchant’s residence, where we can sit down with a cup of green tea while gazing out onto a Japanese garden.

Then, enjoy the riverside scenery with a chance to cross the river on a rare surviving ferry that still connects the two shores (weather permitting).

The day ends with a relaxed stroll where you can browse local shops. Don’t miss the chance to pick up freshly made dango!

Fees to the temple wood carving museum and Japanese gardens are included. Access to Yamamoto-tei is also included.
Ferry Ride. If it is running, your boarding costs are included.
Your guide will assist with ordering; expect around ¥1,500–¥3,000 per person depending on choice.
senbei (rice crackers), dango (sweet rice dumplings), pickles, ETC are available for consumption during the tour or to take back to your hotel, so please bring cash if you would like to purchase.
Please purchase your preferred drink and snack at the Yamamoto-tei tea house, as it is not included in the tour price.
