The Carillon in Berlin's Tiergarten is an imposing, hand-playable carillon and an architectural highlight. With a proud height of 42 meters, it is one of the largest of its kind. While the bells sound automatically daily at 12 : 00 and 18 : 00, the regularly held live concerts are a special experience. Current dates for these performances can be found in the daily press.

    Haus der Kulturen der Welt

The design is part of the legendary Hansaviertel, where the crème de la crème of architects (such as Walter Gropius or Oscar Niemeyer) was allowed to let off steam in the 1950s. The building was built in 1957 as a US contribution to Interbau (a huge international building exhibition). It was a gift from the Americans to West Berlin and was meant to be a symbol of freedom and modern spirit. The architect Hugh Stubbins created a masterpiece of post-war modernism here that still looks futuristic today.
