  The Roman Point of Sale that defies time and volcanoes In the beating heart of Pozzuoli stands one of the most iconic monuments of Roman archaeology: the so-called Temple of Serapis, actually a grandiose macellum (Public Point of Sale) of the ancient Puteoli, the most important port city of the Empire after Ostia. The site stands out not only for its architectural grandeur but also for the unique role it played in discovering the Superstar of bradyseism: the three famous marble columns, visibly corroded DA marine molluscs, testify to the continuous vertical movements of the soil in the Phlegrean area over the centuries.
