Kilimanjaro International Airport is an international airport serving the Kilimanjaro National Park in Tanzania, as well as nearby cities like Arusha and Moshi.
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be transferred to your hotel in Moshi. After check-in, you will receive a detailed pre-trek briefing and equipment check to ensure you are fully prepared for your Kilimanjaro climb. The rest of the day is at leisure to rest and acclimatize before the adventure begins.
After breakfast, transfer to Machame Gate where your trek begins. Hike through lush rainforest terrain, gradually ascending to Machame Camp. This first day introduces you to Kilimanjaro’s unique ecosystems and sets the pace for the journey ahead. Over the course of the next six days, trek through different ecological zones, including rainforest, heath, and alpine desert, and spend the nights at various camps, such as Machame Camp, Shira Camp, Barranco Camp, and Karanga Camp.
Continue your ascent through moorland terrain, leaving the rainforest behind as you gain altitude. The landscape opens up with spectacular views as you trek toward Shira Camp, allowing your body to gradually adjust to higher elevations.
Trek across varied terrain, ascending to higher altitudes before descending slightly to Barranco Camp. This “climb high, sleep low” approach helps with acclimatization while offering stunning views of the mountain’s dramatic landscapes.
Begin the day with the climb up the Barranco Wall, one of the most exciting sections of the trek. Continue across ridges and valleys to reach Karanga Camp, where you will rest and prepare for the final ascent stages.
Ascend to Barafu Camp, your base camp for the summit attempt. The terrain becomes more rugged and alpine as you gain altitude. After arriving, rest and prepare for the midnight summit climb.
Begin your summit attempt in the early hours, trekking under the stars toward Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After reaching the summit and witnessing sunrise, descend to Mweka Camp for rest after this challenging but rewarding achievement.
Descend through forest trails to Mweka Gate, where your trek concludes. You will then be transferred back to Moshi for a well-deserved rest and celebration of your achievement.
After breakfast, transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure. This marks the end of your Mount Kilimanjaro trekking adventure, leaving you with a true sense of accomplishment.
