What to expect

At a pottery studio in a historic Japanese house, enjoy a full day of hand-built pottery making. With guidance from a local instructor, you will create yunomi cups and matcha tea bowls (chawan) using about 1 kg of clay. Lunch can be purchased on your own and eaten in the studio.

In the afternoon, learn about Japanese pottery and complete the finishing process—shaving, smoothing, and adding patterns or signatures to personalize your work. Your pieces will be fired and shipped to your home later. An English-speaking guide accompanies the tour, helping you throughout the day. Meet and end at JR Sakura Station. Availability varies by day.
