Hiking Time: 3–4 hours | Distance: 5 km | Habitat: Rainforest Begin your trek at Lemosho Gate, trekking through dense rainforest filled with exotic birds and monkeys. Enjoy the lush scenery as you ascend gently toward Big Tree Camp for your first overnight stay.
Hiking Time: 5–6 hours | Distance: 10 km | Habitat: Moorland Climb out of the forest and into open moorland. Stunning views of Shira Plateau and Kibo Peak. Overnight at Shira 1 Camp.
Hiking Time: 4–5 hours | Distance: 5 km | Habitat: Moorland A relatively easy day across the Shira Plateau. Good acclimatization with panoramic vistas. Overnight at Shira 2 Camp.
Hiking Time: 6–7 hours | Distance: 10 km | Habitat: Semi-desert Ascend to the Lava Tower for altitude adaptation, then descend into the scenic Barranco Valley. Overnight beneath the Barranco Wall.
Hiking Time: 4–5 hours | Distance: 5 km | Habitat: Alpine Desert Climb the iconic Barranco Wall (non-technical scramble) and trek through alpine terrain to Karanga Camp.
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours | Distance: 4 km | Habitat: Alpine Desert A short but steep trek to Barafu Camp, your base for the summit attempt. Early dinner and rest before midnight start.
Hiking Time: 10–14 hours | Distance: 17 km | Habitat: Arctic to Rainforest Summit day! Begin at midnight, pass Stella Point (5,739m), and reach Uhuru Peak, Africa’s highest point. Celebrate before descending to Mweka Camp.
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours | Distance: 10 km | Habitat: Rainforest Final descent through lush rainforest. At Mweka Gate, collect summit certificates and transfer to Moshi or Arusha. Note: On the 7-day itinerary, Day 1 (Big Tree → Shira 1) is often combined, shortening the trek by one day.
