Escape the crowds and discover a different side of Kyoto on this unique cultural experience combining a visit to a Kyoto City-designated Important Machiya with a guided walking tour of Fushimi Inari Shrine.
Your journey begins at Shizuhamo, a beautifully preserved traditional machiya where you will explore authentic tea rooms, seasonal ikebana displays, and traditional tea utensils. Guided by a certified tea instructor, you will grind matcha with a traditional stone mill and prepare your own bowl of tea while learning about the philosophy and aesthetics of Japanese tea culture.
After the tea experience, travel by local train to Fushimi Inari Shrine, where your guide will lead you through the famous Senbon Torii gates to the Okusha Hohaisho and the Omokaru Stone while sharing the history, beliefs, and hidden stories behind the shrine.
This small-group tour offers the perfect combination of Kyoto's living cultural heritage and its most famous sightseeing destination.
Shizuhamo is about 10 minutes from Fushimi Inari Shrine by Keihan train and walking. A red fire extinguisher box is on the right of the gate. Staff will welcome you at the entrance.
