Kyoto Private Tea Room and Ikebana Experience near Fushimi Inari

This is a self-guided cultural experience inside a historic Kyoto townhouse near Fushimi Inari. Guests unlock the entrance with a personal access code and explore the interior using an English and Japanese audio guide.

In the traditional tea room, observe features such as the nijiriguchi and hanging kettle. You may also turn a stone mill and handle tea utensils to engage with aspects of Japanese tea culture.

Upstairs, create your own ikebana arrangement using prepared seasonal materials.

English and Japanese guides for Fushimi Inari Shrine are also available. Fushimi Inari is about 1.7 km away (25–30 minutes on foot) through a Kyo-machiya preservation district.

This is an independent experience, not a guided tour or tea ceremony.

From Keihan Sumizome Station, walk north for approximately 400 meters (about 6 minutes). The townhouse is located about 60 meters south of the west gate of Fujinomori Shrine. It is situated along a very quiet back street. Look for a traditional wooden gate marking the entrance.

What to expect

Experience a private, self-guided cultural session in a historic Kyoto townhouse near Fushimi Inari.

What you’ll do (25 minutes):

1) Self check-in
After booking, you receive an access code to unlock the entrance at your reserved time.

2) Audio introduction
Use your smartphone to start the audio guide explaining the architecture and cultural background.

3) Tea room exploration
Enter the tea room and observe features such as the nijiriguchi (small crawl-through entrance) and hanging kettle. Turn a traditional stone mill and handle tea utensils.

Observe elements seen during formal tea gatherings. The nijiriguchi encourages a mindful posture, while the suspended kettle shapes the atmosphere. Turning the mill lets you feel its weight and rhythm.

4) Ikebana creation upstairs
Create your own arrangement using prepared seasonal materials.

Take photos before your session ends.
