    My Son Sanctuary

My Son Sanctuary is an ancient religious site located about 40 kilometers southwest of Hoi An. Built between the 4th and 13th centuries by the Champa Kingdom, My Son was a spiritual and political center dedicated to Hindu gods, especially Shiva, known as Bhadresvara in Cham culture. Over seventy temples and towers were originally constructed in this lush valley surrounded by mountains, symbolizing the holy connection between heaven and earth. The temples were built using red bricks and sandstone, featuring delicate carvings of gods, dancers, and mythical animals that reflect both Cham artistry and Indian influence. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999, My Son is considered the most important Cham architectural complex in Vietnam. Today, it attracts visitors from all over the world who come to explore its ancient ruins, learn about Cham history, and experience traditional Cham dance performances amid the peaceful natural surroundings.
