What to expect

Wanting to try something different or see a very different side of Edinburgh?
No previous climbing experience is needed for these outdoor climbing sessions, and you’ll get logs of support and encouragement!

We’ll meet at the parking place, complete any paperwork, and walk 10-15 min to the climbing area with the gear.

Sessions will vary to suit the group, the weather, and whether anyone else is climbing - no 2 sessions are identical! However, a rough plan might be…

We get geared up with harnesses and helmets, and warm up: we might play a silly game, try out some “bouldering” (no-rope climbing) within a metre or two of the ground to learn some climbing tricks. Then I’ll set up some ropes for the group, teach you how to “belay” (control the rope to keep the climber safe) and you’ll spend lots of time climbing, belaying and encouraging each other! Sometimes, we can do abseiling too, however often people want to keep climbing! For kids (and kids-at-heart) we sometimes do silly things on a rope too, always keeping it as safe as possible of course!
