The first stop is the impressive Tulé Tree. This ancient ahuehuete tree stands out not only for its monumental trunk, but also for the whimsical shapes of animals and mythical figures that can be seen in its bark. Here, you will immerse yourself in the fascinating history and traditions that have protected this giant throughout the centuries.
Now we head to Hierve el Agua, a natural paradise that will take your breath away. Here we will have a two-and-a-half-hour (2:30 hours) stay to fully enjoy the place. You can admire the spectacular petrified waterfalls, formed over thousands of years, and explore the local flora and fauna along its trails. You will also have the opportunity to take a refreshing dip in its natural pools, enjoying a unique landscape.
Traditional Oaxacan buffet lunch Next, we will stop for a delicious culinary experience. We will arrive at a buffet restaurant where the most authentic flavors of Oaxaca await you. You will have the opportunity to try a wide selection of moles, traditional tlayudas, delicious grilled meats, and a variety of stews that are part of the local cuisine.
The next stop is Teotitlán del Valle, home to the famous wool rugs. Here, we will visit a family workshop where you will discover how these works of art are made. You will witness the ancestral processes and the use of natural pigments that bring to life designs that tell the history and traditions of the town in every strand.
Shell candles in Teotitlán del Valle In Teotitlán del Valle, we will also explore one of its most cherished traditions: the making of shell candles. Handcrafted from pure beeswax, these candles are an important symbol in marriage proposal ceremonies, known as “contentadas,” an essential ceremonial and cultural step before a wedding.
Artisanal mezcal Finally, we will visit an authentic mezcal house. Here, you will immerse yourself in the fascinating world of mezcal, learning about the different types of agave used. You will witness the artisanal production process, from cooking in earthen ovens and traditional crushing to the fermentation that gives life to this iconic Oaxacan drink.
