Monte Albán is the most important archaeological area of Oaxaca, a site of great historical and cultural relevance. This pre-Hispanic ceremonial center, located high on a mountain, was the capital of the ancient Zapotec civilization and one of the most influential urban centers in Mesoamerica.
First, you will discover the world of ancient mezcal. Discover a unique process where wild agaves are distilled from the region to create an exceptional drink. During your visit, you will not only learn about each stage of its preparation, but also enjoy a guided tasting to appreciate its authentic flavors and aromas. Afterwards, we will move to a local workshop to learn about the process and history of the alebrijes. You will see how these mythical figures are hand-carved from wood and painted in intricate patterns inspired by Zapotec codices. In addition, you will immerse yourself in the tradition of tones and nahuales, discovering the meaning of these spiritual beings in the culture of the region.
We will enjoy a buffet with authentic traditional Oaxacan food. In addition, the buffet includes a wide variety of dishes: from moles and roast meats, to tlayudas and delicious desserts. It also has a salad section, ideal for those who prefer vegetarian options.
We will visit the Ex-Convent of Cuilapam, an imposing Dominican construction of the 16th century. This place is famous for its open chapel, a monumental and enigmatic architectural work that, although never finished, has become an icon of colonial architecture in Oaxaca. In addition, this site has a great historical relevance, since in its walls was shot the procer of Independence, Vicente Guerrero, in 1831.
We will visit the iconic workshop of Doña Rosa, a unique place in Oaxaca famous for its work with black mud. You will know the artisan process that gives each piece that characteristic color and metallic shine without the need for enamel, only with a careful polish, making each creation a work of art.
