Come explore Livorno with a licesed local guide!
This experience is a beautiful mix of walking together through Livorno’s historic streets and seeing the city from the water.
As we stroll, I’ll take you to some of my favorite spots, from iconic landmarks to hidden corners, bringing the city to life with stories, history, and little details you’d never notice on your own.
Then we’ll hop on a boat tour where we’ll join a scheduled ride that may include other guests on board (the boat can host up to 45 people).Even in this setting, I’ll stay right by your side, guiding you in English as your personal guide. We’ll pass under charming bridges and see Livorno from a whole new perspective:relaxed, scenic, and truly special.
Every day can be a little different:
we might start on foot or on the boat, depending on weather and boat schedules.
I will meet guests in front of the façade of Livorno Cathedral
You will meet your guide in front of the façade of Livorno Cathedral (Cathedral of Saint Francis) in Piazza Grande to begin the tour. Depending on the departure time of the boat, we will either start with a walking tour through the city or go directly to the boarding point for the canal boat experience.
ogether, we will step inside the ancient walls of the Fortezza Vecchia and uncover its hidden corners. As we walk through its towers, courtyards, and stone passages, you will hear stories of power, defense, and life by the sea, bringing centuries of history to life in a place few truly explore.
We’ll stop at the famous Monumento dei Quattro Mori, one of Livorno’s most iconic landmarks. Here you’ll take a closer look at the four bronze statues and the figure of Ferdinando I above them, while I explain the meaning behind the monument and why it became such an important symbol of the city. It’s a great place to understand a bit more about Livorno’s history, its connection to the sea, and to take some memorable photos.
We will board the boat and begin a relaxing cruise of about 50 minutes along the Medici canals, known locally as the “Fossi.” As we glide through the waterways, you’ll see Livorno from a completely different perspective, passing through several areas of the city that are closely connected to its maritime history. We’ll cruise through the charming Venezia Nuova district, famous for its canals, historic buildings, and unique atmosphere, often compared to Venice. Along the way, you’ll also spot the Mercato Centrale di Livorno area, one of the liveliest spots in the city, while I share insights about Livorno’s development, trade, and daily life around the canals. The boat ride offers great views, interesting stories, and plenty of photo opportunities before we return to the original boarding point. Please note that the boat ride is not private and there may be other passengers on board; however, I will personally provide the tour guidance in English throughout the experience.
