Outside Westminster tube exit 1. it is at river level, next to exit of Westminster Millennium pier. We meet on the steps up to the Westminster Bridge. You will see a copper turquoise monument and a red safety ring.
This is next to St Martin-in-the-Fields church, next to Trafalgar Square. It is 5 minutes walk to Leicester Square Tube station and 5 minutes walk to Charing Cross station.
We start seeing the statue of the ancient warrior, Queen Boudicea who fought the Romans. We walk on to Parliament Square to see the scene of Black Friday when suffragettes tried to storm Parliament in 1910 as part of the campaign to get votes for women. We will see the statue of Millicent Garrett-Fawcett who organised non-violent campaigns for women's suffrage. All this against the beautiful backdrop of the Palace of Westminster, Big Ben and Westminster Abbey. This is a walking tour and we don't enter any of the buildings we see.
We walk along the historica heart of British Royal power, Whitehall. It is now the heart of government and is lined with historic buildings going back to the seventeenth century. This district has witnessed the lives of some of Britain's most inspirational and most divisive women. You will hear about Winston Churchill's favourite WWII spy: Margaret Thatcher, Britain's first female Prime Minister; Queen Mary II who led the Glorious Revolution and started the British system of representative democracy....lots of stories of power, scheming, heartbreak and of course bravery.
We will be hearing the stories of 3 more Warrior Women as we skirt around Trafalgar Square. You will hear about a forgotten Medieval Queen who fought alongside her husband in battle; a woman who has fought for decades for justice for her murdered son and changed the British justice system and the incredible WWI nurse who save hundreds of soldiers lives.
