Designed especially for cruise passengers, this small-group shore excursion brings together some of the best experiences of Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast in one relaxed day. Cruise the Tortuguero Canals in search of monkeys, sloths, iguanas and tropical birds, explore the rainforest and coastline of Cahuita National Park, and enjoy a stop at a local banana plantation.
You’ll also visit Maratopia, our own tropical garden near Puerto Limón. Walk among tropical plants and blue Morpho butterflies and enjoy a tasting of fresh seasonal fruits – an experience you won’t find on the standard port excursions.
With groups limited to a maximum of 20 guests, the experience stays personal and relaxed. The tour is coordinated with your cruise ship’s arrival and return schedule, so you can enjoy your day in Costa Rica without feeling rushed.
Wildlife lives freely in its natural habitat, so sightings can never be guaranteed – but that is exactly what makes every tour different.
What's Included
Meeting and pickup
This tour is designed especially for cruise passengers arriving in Puerto Limón. Once your ship has been cleared, please make your way to the cruise port exit. After passing through the exit gate/turnstile, your Maratopia guide will be waiting for you on the street side, holding a Maratopia sign. The tour schedule is coordinated with your ship’s arrival and departure time, and we will return you to the cruise port in good time before your ship departs.

1Cahuita National Park
Explore the coastal rainforest of Cahuita National Park on a relaxed guided walk along the Caribbean coast. Keep your eyes open for sloths, monkeys, raccoons, iguanas, butterflies and tropical birds while your guide helps spot wildlife hidden in the trees. The trail runs alongside beautiful Caribbean beaches, and when weather and sea conditions allow, there may also be time for a refreshing swim. Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed, as all animals live freely in their natural habitat.

2Tortuguero Canal
Cruise through the Tortuguero Canals and experience the lush Caribbean rainforest from the water. Your guide will help you spot wildlife along the riverbanks and in the treetops, such as monkeys, sloths, iguanas, caimans and colorful tropical birds. The peaceful boat ride offers a completely different perspective of Costa Rica's Caribbean nature. Wildlife sightings vary, as all animals live freely in their natural habitat.

3Maratopia
Visit Maratopia, our own tropical garden near Puerto Limón and a relaxing final stop before returning to the cruise port. Walk through lush tropical vegetation, discover colorful plants and blue Morpho butterflies, and enjoy a tasting of fresh seasonal tropical fruits. Keep an eye on the surrounding trees as well – wild sloths, colorful birds and other wildlife are regularly spotted around the property. A peaceful and personal way to experience another side of Costa Rica’s Caribbean nature.
