What to expect

This experience begins with a quiet introduction to the refined world of the Sencha Tea Ceremony. In the calm setting of a Kyoto tearoom, your host will demonstrate the traditional preparation of gyokuro, Japan’s prized green tea, so you can observe the elegance and precision behind each gesture.

Together with the Tea Master, you will learn about the etiquette and utensils used in the ceremony, discovering the meaning behind their movements and the cultural spirit they embody. You’ll then rehearse the basic steps through guided “air practice,” refining posture and handling before moving into hands-on preparation.
With gentle guidance, you will brew your own cup of gyokuro, learning how water temperature and leaf quantity shape the tea’s delicate flavor.

Finally, enjoy your handcrafted tea paired with a seasonal wagashi confection, while engaging in relaxed conversation with your host — an opportunity to deepen your understanding of Japanese hospitality and tea culture in an intimate, memorable way.
