Hi, I’m Stephen. My tours are personal - you will not be sharing with anyone else. I will be your driver and guide for the day - I will collect you in our luxury Land Rover Defender 130 - Britain’s answer to the Chevy Suburban. My aim is to give you all the background and history you need to enjoy the day. As it’s a private tour we can be flexible - if you want to stay longer or divert to see something else, no problem. I am new to Viator so I don’t have many reviews but i’ve been a guide for many years. You won’t be disappointed!
We will travel to the ancient town of Tenterden, deep in the Kent countryside and off the beaten track.
We can have lunch at Chartwell or an old pub.
I love Chartwell - it has been left as though Churchill left just yesterday - a cigar still nestles in the ashtray in his office. The grounds are beautiful and we can visit his Studio, the Rose Garden and the Walled Garden.
At the end of the day I will get you safely back to you hotel.
We can pick you up from any London location by arrangement
We will tour Sir Winston Churchill's home and grounds, Chartwell, which is still much the same as he left it. A cigar still nestles in the ashtray in his office. We will also tour the Walled Garden where fruit and vegetables for the house were grown, Churchill's beloved The Rose Garden and his Studio where he painted many of his pictures. If you have time and the weather is agreeable, we can walk in the extensive grounds. Admission to Chartwell is £18 per person - this is not included and we can pre-book for you by arrangement.
We will start with a walking tour of the ancient Kent town of Tenterden. Dating back to around 740 AD, Tenterden now features an extensive High Street of independent shops, cafes and pubs. St. Mildred's church features some of the best stained glass in southern England. The Kent & Sussex Steam railway departs from Tenterden. The White Lion Pub, dating back to the 1600's is one of many ancient buildings we can visit.
From Tenterden we will drive through the beautiful Weald of Kent, often known as the 'Garden of England', travelling through historic villages including Smarden, Frittenden and Sissinghurst towards Chartwell. There will be plenty of photo opportunities.
If you would like to dine at one of the oldest and most beautiful pubs in Kent, we can stop for some casual 'pub grub and a pint' at the 600 year old Three Chimneys just outside the village of Biddenden.
