Your experience is the only one that combines world-class art with the warmth of a traditional market. We don’t just walk through Ocotlán; we enter the soul of the town. We are the only ones that include an exclusive visit to the workshop of Alberly Sombreros to learn the secret of the hat of 'donkey belly' and an encounter with history in the murals of Rodolfo Morales. In addition, we navigate the market to meet the famous Doña Beatriz, ensuring you taste the most authentic flavors that other tours overlook. With personalized transportation and small groups, we guarantee a Friday full of 'Magic Realism' that feels like a trip between friends, not like a sightseeing excursion."
For your convenience, we will pick you up directly at your accommodation. One day before the tour, no later than 8:00 PM, we will send you a whatsApp message or an email to confirm the exact time our unit will be at your door. Please be ready 5 minutes early to make the most of our Plaza Friday in Ocotlán.
We'll dive into the bustle of Square Friday. We will visit the famous dining room of Dona Beatriz, known as the "Frida Kahlo of Ocotlán", to taste its legendary stew. We’ll explore the aroma-filled hallways, from freshly ground chocolate to “higaditos” (ritual wedding dish), as we learn about the region’s unique products.
We start in the artistic heart of Ocotlán. We will admire the impressive murals of Rodolfo Morales that decorate the Municipal Palace, where local traditions come alive in vibrant colors. Afterwards, we will visit the Ex-Convent, an architectural gem whose restoration was the great gift of the master to his people.
HANDICRAFT KNIFE WORKSHOPS We'll meet the guardians of centuries-old offices. We will visit a cutlery workshop where the steel is engraved by hand with popular sayings, a tradition unique to Ocotlán.
“We will visit the iconic workshop of Alberly Sombreros, where we will meet the guardians of one of the most elegant traditions of Oaxaca. Here we will learn the artisan process of the 'donkey belly' hat, from hand moulding to finishing. Travelers will have the unique opportunity to enter the workshop, talk with master hatters and understand why this garment is a symbol of identity and status in the Central Valleys. A must stop for lovers of fine craftsmanship and photography."
