We will pick you up from your hotel in Marrakech at 8:30 a.m. then drive south towards the High Atlas Mountains to the village of Imlil. Here we will head along the Mizane Valley, first towards the village of Armed and then onto the renowned shrine of Sidi Chamarouch where we will enjoy our tasty lunch. From here the trail continues to climb steadily, snaking and zigzagging its way up to the the Toukbal Refuge (3207 m), our stop for the night. Approx. 5 hours walking.
Early in the morning, we make our attempt on the summit of Jebel Toubkal, the highest peak in Northern Africa. Our route takes us up the south cirque, crossing the stream above the refuge. The walking is relatively straightforward, but the scree and the altitude will make the going quite difficult in parts. The views along the way make the journey more than worthwhile. We will have lunch on our way around the Shamharouch Shrine by the river, then continue our walk to Imlil, where we will meet the driver for a 1.5-hour drive back to Marrakech. The total walking distance for the day will be approximately 10 hours.
