Morning light in Lisbon street photography walk

3 hours (approximately)
Offered in: English

Most photo walks focus on postcard views or preset stops. This experience is different. Led by Jaki, a working photographer and co-founder of the Lisbon Street Photo Fest, it focuses on how to see rather than where to go. The walk blends teaching and exploration, moving through areas chosen for their light, texture, and atmosphere. You’ll learn how to read a scene, notice timing and rhythm, and photograph with intention instead of impulse. The group stays small so everyone receives personal guidance, no matter what camera they use. By the end, you’ll understand how photographers approach a city and how to translate what you see into meaningful images.

What's Included

We can stop along the way at a local cafe and grab a tea or coffee.

Meeting and pickup

Meeting point

Meet me by the upper Baixa-Chiado exit next to the statue of António Ribeiro.

End point
This activity ends back at the meeting point.

What to expect

See Lisbon through the eyes of a local photographer on this three-hour small-group walk. Instead of rushing between landmarks, you’ll slow down and explore how light, rhythm, and daily life shape the feel of the city. The route runs from the upper Baixa-Chiado exit down toward Rua Augusta and Pink Street, then loops up to follow the Tram 28 line into Alfama. We'll work the way around the inside of Alfama while the light is still good, then end at Feira da Ladra.

Your guide, Jaki, is a Lisbon-based photographer and co-founder of the Lisbon Street Photo Fest. He shares a working photographer’s approach to observation, timing, and composition, helping you understand how to see what most visitors miss. Whether you use a phone or a camera, you’ll finish with a new way of seeing Lisbon and a better sense of how to photograph any city you visit.

This route comes out of the work Jaki does for Lisbon Street Photo Fest. Every year he builds photo walk routes for the guest photographers so they have somewhere to start when they're new to the city. This one is based on the route I built for Phil Penman, with a few small changes to hit extra spots I like.
