Ekang Village Cooking Class By PONDOK MBAH KAKONG

4 hours (approximately)
Pickup offered
Offered in: English

The class begins with the essential dish of Indonesian cuisine: Opor Ayam. You will master the art of grinding and mixing this classic spice paste using a stone mortar, releasing the fragrances of galangal, turmeric, and ginger.
Guided patiently by your English-speaking chefs through each step, you will prepare a full 6-course menu that accommodates both meat enthusiasts and those who prefer vegan options.
We believe that the best flavors emerge from fresh ingredients, which is why we embrace a distinctive “Cook-Eat-Cook-Eat” approach. Rather than waiting until the very end for a cold meal, we split the cooking process into stages.

What to expect

Your culinary adventure starts with a convenient pick-up from your designated location in Bintan Resort Area or the Ferry Terminal, transporting you from the urban bustle into the serene countryside. After a brief, picturesque drive through verdant villages, you will arrive at PONDOK MBAH KAKONG, where a warm cup of coffee or herbal tea awaits to greet you. It is at this moment that the genuine farm-to-table experience commences.

With a bamboo basket and a harvesting knife in hand, you will embark on a guided exploration of the organic farm. Your guide will share the principles of Bintan agriculture, demonstrating how organic natural pesticides are produced and how local flora can be utilized for medicinal applications.

You will actively participate in collecting the fresh vegetables and spices—including long beans, chilies, and lemongrass—that will be employed in your upcoming cooking class. The culinary session takes place in our outdoor kitchen, enveloped in the sounds and sights of nature. You will team up at a communal cooking area, creating a lively and collaborative environment.
