Discover one of eastern Georgia’s most unique landscapes on our full-day David Gareji Tour. We begin our journey from Tbilisi and drive through the dramatic semi-desert scenery toward the historic David Gareji Monastery, a 6th-century cave complex carved into the cliffs along the Georgian-Azerbaijani border. After exploring the monastery and enjoying panoramic views, we continue with a guided walking tour in the spectacular Rainbow Mountains, famous for their colorful mineral layers and untouched nature.
Our next stop is a short visit to the tranquil salt lake near Udabno, where the white salt crust and wide open plains create a striking contrast to the surrounding hills. We then head to Kakheti for a relaxing break at Wineria Kakheti restaurant in Tokhliauri, where you can enjoy authentic Georgian cuisine and local wine. In the evening, we return comfortably to Tbilisi, completing a day filled with history, landscapes, and flavors of Georgia.

David Gareji is an ancient cave monastery among harsh landscapes, a place of power and silence.
The **Rainbow Mountains near **David Gareji are a striking natural feature in eastern Georgia, not far from the famous David Gareji monastery complex — about 60–70 km southeast of Tbilisi. They’re best described as a colorful semi-desert landscape of layered hills with vivid hues ranging from reds and oranges to yellows and browns, created by mineral-rich sedimentary rocks and long-term geological processes that expose different coloured strata.
We are going to have short stop before David gareji in Udabno, for visiting salt lakes. Near Udabno village — a sparsely populated community in the semi-desert east of Georgia — there are natural salt lakes or saline depressions along the route toward the David Gareji monastery area. These aren’t formal touristic “lakes” with infrastructure, but rather shallow saltwater basins in the dry plains that can hold water depending on conditions.
After tour we will going to Vineria Kakheti retaurant in Tokhliauri. Discover the heart and soul of Georgia’s rich culinary heritage at Vineria Kakheti, a haven for food enthusiasts and seekers of authentic experiences. Nestled in the picturesque landscapes of Kakheti, our restaurant is a celebration of the region’s vibrant culture, exquisite flavors, and warm hospitality. Step into a world where every meal tells a story, and every bite is a journey through the traditional tastes of Georgia.
