You do not need advanced trekking skills to join. We will guide you through flat, easily accessible forest areas, making this tour perfectly safe and enjoyable even if you are completely unfamiliar with snow.
While the terrain is gentle, Hokkaido's winter temperatures are freezing. Because we spend time waiting quietly in the snow for the wildlife to emerge at twilight, proper winter gear (such as ski-wear) and sturdy snow boots are absolutely essential for your safety and comfort. What to expect
Designed for photographers seeking rare encounters, perfect light, and refined guiding in Japan’s untouched wilderness.
Led by Koudai Araki, a professional wildlife photographer based in Obihiro, you’ll visit carefully researched nesting sites of flying squirrels hidden in Hokkaido’s coniferous woodlands.
At dawn and dusk—the only moments these nocturnal animals glide—you’ll capture their movements in soft natural light.
Between sessions, enjoy a 3–4-hour midday break to rest, review, and recharge.
Daytime exploration includes seasonal wildlife such as owls, foxes, and long-tailed tits.
All locations are chosen through field research to ensure ethical, repeatable encounters with minimal impact.
