The experience begins in front of the imposing Palacio de López, home of the Paraguayan government and one of the most iconic postcards in Asunción. Its neoclassical architecture, gardens and presidential history create the perfect setting for unforgettable photographs. Here the guide tells stories and curiosities that do not appear in the books, while travelers connect with the political and historical spirit of Paraguay.
Just in front of the Palace, travelers enter the magical Manzana de la Rivera cultural complex, a set of restored colonial houses that house unique museums: the Paraguayan Harp Museum, the Paraguayan Film Museum and the City Museum. This point is a journey back in time: traditional music, architectural heritage and exhibitions that reveal the roots of Asunción from its beginnings. Every room has a surprising story.
A few steps away is the Cabildo, one of the most emblematic buildings in the country. Here we enter to discover art exhibitions, historical relics and pieces that tell of Paraguay’s political, cultural and social past. Its central gallery and themed rooms make this stop a deep dive into Paraguayan identity.
The tour continues to the solemn National Pantheon of Heroes, where the most important characters of national history rest. Its architecture, inspired by Les Invalides in Paris, and the changing of the guard offer an emotional and symbolic experience. The guide reveals stories, legends and heroic details that give life to this sacred place for Paraguayans.
Then we visited the Museum of Paraguayan Economy, a gem little known to tourists but fascinating to understand how the country developed. Historical documents, ancient coins and surprising accounts show the economic evolution of Paraguay. This stop offers a different, educational and very revealing perspective.
We entered the historic Casa de la Independencia, the exact place where the gesture that gave Paraguay freedom was conspired and executed. Its original rooms, period objects and the guide’s account transport the visitor to 1811, as if living the night of Independence in the first person. A must-see stop for history lovers.
The tour ends at Turista Róga – SENATUR, a space where travelers can find Paraguayan crafts, typical products, maps, guides and authentic souvenirs of local culture. A perfect closure to take a physical memory of Asunción and receive personalized recommendations to continue exploring the city.
