Please come directly to THE CAT RETREAT at UTANEKODO. The café is located down a small alley; walk to the very end and look for the entrance with the noren (curtain) hanging at the door. There is no separate meeting point – we will welcome you at the entrance at your reserved time.

What to expect
Step into a wooden townhouse in Kyoto and spend a quiet hour with eight rescued cats. This is not a typical “petting-style” cat café, but an ethical retreat for travelers who care about animal welfare and prefer a calm, mindful visit.
All cats here were rescued and now live a safe life. They are free to come and go; some may sit nearby, others may nap or watch from a window.
The session is a small-group visit with a maximum of six guests, so the space stays peaceful.
You will whisk your own bowl of matcha and enjoy a cat-shaped Japanese sweet as a simple cultural touch to your time with the cats.
A small amount of safe treats is provided to help you interact gently. For their health, treats are controlled by the host and not sold, and your fee supports their food, vet care and home.
