Callander is often known as the gateway to the Highlands. We make a short stop here for a comfort break where you can grab a coffee, use the facilities, and stretch your legs before continuing north into the Highland landscape.
Glencoe is one of Scotland’s most famous valleys, known for its dramatic mountains and powerful history. We stop here for photos and to take in the scenery. Your guide will share the story of the 1692 Glencoe Massacre and explain why this valley remains such an important part of Scottish history.
We stop in Fort William, a busy Highland town located at the foot of Ben Nevis. You’ll have free time here to enjoy lunch, explore the town centre, or simply relax before we continue to Glenfinnan.
From the Fort William area, there are views of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the United Kingdom. Weather permitting, you’ll have the opportunity to take photos and admire the surrounding mountain scenery.
The Glenfinnan Viaduct is one of the most iconic landmarks in the Highlands. You’ll have time to walk to the viewpoint overlooking the viaduct and Loch Shiel. The viaduct is well known for its appearance in the Harry Potter films. If timings align, you may see the Jacobite Steam Train crossing the bridge (train schedule subject to availability).
Located on the shores of Loch Shiel, the Glenfinnan Monument marks the site where Bonnie Prince Charlie raised his standard in 1745. You’ll have time to explore the area, enjoy the views across the loch, and take photographs.
Neptune’s Staircase is a series of canal locks on the Caledonian Canal near Fort William. We make a short stop here to view this impressive piece of engineering and take photos before continuing the journey.
We pause briefly at Laggan Dam for photos and to appreciate the surrounding Highland landscape. This stop offers wide open views and a chance to experience the quieter side of the region.
On the return journey, we travel through parts of Cairngorms National Park. Sit back and enjoy the scenic drive as we pass forests, rivers, and mountain landscapes that define this protected area.
Our final stop is in the Victorian town of Pitlochry. You’ll have time for a short break to use the facilities, grab refreshments, or explore the small town centre before returning to Edinburgh.
