This tour starts at 4:00pm for a reason. As the sun sets, Ameyoko transforms. The daytime market winds down while standing bars, seafood restaurants and izakayas come alive with locals finishing work and catching up over a drink. This is when the neighbourhood is at its best
Every venue has been personally selected for its quality, authenticity & value.
Rather than following trends or tourist hotspots, we've built this tour around places we'd happily take our own friends & family
Over four relaxed hours, we'll visit around nine stops, tasting everything from Japanese fruits and sashimi, to fresh oysters, takoyaki, tempura, izakaya favourites and traditional Japanese dessert.
We'll also step away from the market to visit a peaceful temple, learning about Japanese culture, Buddhism & Shinto before diving back into the energy of Ameyoko.
Come hungry, you'll leave full and with a genuine appreciation for Japanese food & culture!
We'll meet outside Hard Rock Cafe Ueno, just a few minutes' walk from JR Ueno Station.
The tour concludes near JR Ueno Station, making it easy to continue exploring Tokyo or head back to your accommodation.
We'll kick things off with a selection of fresh seasonal fruit, a light and refreshing introduction to Japan's incredible produce and one of the country's most unique food cultures.
Next, we'll enjoy beautifully prepared sashimi, with adventurous guests also having the option to try basashi (horse sashimi). It's the perfect introduction to Japan's world-famous seafood culture.
We'll continue with fresh oysters sourced from some of Japan's most famous oyster-producing regions. Big, fresh and incredibly flavourful, they're a must-try for seafood lovers.
We'll wander past one of Ameyoko's traditional standing bars and, if there's space, stop for a quick drink while experiencing one of Japan's favourite after-work traditions.
Fresh off the grill, we'll enjoy one of Osaka's most famous street foods. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and usually much hotter than they look!
We'll step away from the busy market for a moment to visit one of Ueno's hidden temples, offering a peaceful contrast and a glimpse into Japan's spiritual side.
We'll settle in for a relaxed sit-down dinner featuring yakiton, nikomi and a selection of classic izakaya dishes. This is where you'll experience Japanese dining culture the way locals do.
We'll finish the savoury part of the evening with freshly prepared tempura, choosing from a variety of seafood and seasonal vegetables cooked to crispy perfection.
We'll wrap up the evening at one of Ueno's most famous dessert shops, where you can choose from a range of traditional Japanese sweets and finish the tour on a sweet note.
