Meeting and pickup
After your reservation is confirmed, detailed information will be sent to you by email. Guests will meet the instructor directly at the Kanzashi workshop in Sumida. Please arrive at the workshop entrance 5 minutes before the start time. A staff member will be waiting at the entrance to welcome you.
What to expect
Step into a traditional workshop in Tokyo and create your own Japanese kanzashi hairpin under the guidance of a skilled local artisan.
Upon arrival, you will be warmly welcomed and introduced to the history and cultural significance of kanzashi, traditional hair ornaments that have been worn in Japan for centuries, especially with kimono.
Next, the artisan will demonstrate the basic techniques and materials used in making kanzashi. You will then begin crafting your own hairpin, choosing from a variety of designs, colors, and decorative elements. The instructor will carefully guide you through each step, from shaping and assembling the parts to adding the final details.
No prior experience is required, and all tools and materials are provided. The workshop is designed to be relaxing, hands-on, and easy to follow, making it suitable for beginners as well as those interested in Japanese traditional crafts.
At the end of the experience, you will take home your completed one-of-a-kind kanzashi as a meaningful souvenir of your time in Japan.
