Enhance your landscape photography skills in the stunning Joshua Tree National Park during the captivating moonrise on March 31, 2026. This four-hour workshop, led by Mitch Miller, a seasoned photographer with over 30 years of experience in the park, focuses on composition techniques to capture the full moonrise while the landscape is still illuminated by sunlight. Discover hidden gems of the park, often overlooked in guidebooks, and refine your artistic eye under expert guidance.

What to expect

Using either your mirrorless or DSLR camera (tripod recommended), or camera phone, we will visit pre-scouted destinations and discuss how to capture your viewers' attention with impactful compositions, visual design and subject matter; then compose, photograph, repeat, in several locations.

For those settings where you want people to feel how you felt in the moment, I recommend 14-35 mm focal length lenses. These wider lenses offer context of the landscape well. However, to best capture the moonrise you will want a telephoto lens. Many camera phones zoom in well for just such a moment.

Our primary subject matter will be Joshua trees, monzogranite rock boulders and outcrops, a variety of cactus, moonrise and sunset.

Drive time is not included in length of activity.
