Markthalle
The Gundeldinger Feld is an approximately 12,000 m² neighborhood center with cultural offerings in Basel-Gundeldingen. It is located in the former Sulzer-Burckhardt machine factory and is a listed building.
The three pillars of ecological, economic and social sustainability have been part of the Bio Bistro philosophy since it was founded around 20 years ago. As the first bistro in Basel 2006 awarded the bud by Bio Suisse, they mainly process regional products in organic quality and pro-Specie-Rara products.
From Soup & Chill, the tour travels up through Gundeldingerstrasse, stopping at Biolaade Gundeli, WERT!Staette and Backwarenoutlet. At each stop, the tour guide describes the organic, food sharing and foodsaving projects and stories behind the stores.
The Basel Market Hall (also known as the "Grossmarkthalle") is a building erected in Basel in 1929, which was used for market operations until 2004. After standing empty for several years, it was renovated, and various specialty shops opened. Today, the market hall primarily serves as a venue for cultural events (e.g., flea markets, cooking classes, public tours, concerts, comedy nights) and as a food court with street food stalls from around the world. Depending on timing, out guide will point out a couple of sustainable food stands in Markthalle and a local, bio produce store housed in Markthalle. If you are lucky, they have a flea market or a special event with music or poetry taking place while you are there. Please look around the hall to appreciate the building’s architecture with its very special cement arched ceiling. This building was renovated by the famous Basel sustainable architect Barbara Buser and her team.
