After registration at the Machame Gate, trek through dense rainforest filled with streams, mossy pathways, and towering trees. The air is humid and the ascent steady. As you gain altitude, the forest begins to thin.
The trail steepens as you climb out of the forest into heather and moorland. This day offers sweeping views of Kibo Peak and the Shira Plateau. You will cross volcanic ridges and open landscapes before reaching Shira Camp.
A crucial acclimatization day. Gradually ascend to Lava Tower, where you’ll stop for a hot lunch. Afterwards, descend into the Barranco Valley — a beautiful and sheltered location surrounded by steep cliffs and hanging glaciers.
Begin with the climb up Barranco Wall — an exciting scramble with panoramic views. The landscape transitions into alpine terrain as you cross ridges and valleys. Karanga Camp offers excellent views for sunset photography and rest.
The air grows thinner as you ascend through barren, rocky slopes toward Barafu Camp. This camp is perched on a narrow ridge and can be windy. Rest early to recover strength before the summit attempt.
Start your summit attempt at midnight. The climb is demanding but incredibly rewarding. Reach Stella Point at dawn, then continue to Uhuru Peak, taking in breathtaking views over Africa. Descend to Barafu for a short break, then continue to Mweka Camp for overnight.
Descend through the rainforest with a chance of spotting monkeys and colorful birds. At the gate, celebrate with your summit certificate and return to your lodge.
