This alternative tour has been created for the people who would like to experience both parts of Bilbao, the Old Medieval Casco Viejo and the New City. In the tour, we will talk about history and architecture, but mainly we will visit a lot of very old shops and restaurants, most of them not touristic at all, the places where the local people prefer for their everyday needs. Within some five hours , or a little bit more, depending on the breaks, we'll follow the local people in their everyday life in Bilbao.
Officially, the tour's starts inside the Plaza Nueva, in the Old City (Casco Viejo) of Bilbao.
Inside the Plaza Nueva, outside the Globo Bar, and I will be wearing a purple beret for you to recognize me.
The tour ends inside the Doña Casilda Park, where the central fountain is.
We'll visit the oldest Opera of the Old Medieval city, which is one of the most emblematic and beautiful buildings. We'll talk about its history before we start the tour
We'll get inside the oldest square - Plaza Nueva - of the Old City in which we'll talk about its history and architecture before we visit some of its most popular bars and restaurants.
From this square we'll begin our walking tour of the oldest part of the medieval city, the Seven Streets. We'll visit some very old shops related to the everyday life of the place and we'll enjoy its architecture.
We'll enter to the oldest and most popular local market built on the riverbank of Bilbao's port. We'll have the chance to experience how the local people do their shopping and we might have a break for some coffee and pintxos.
We will visit the two oldest train stations of Bilbao. We will have the chance to go to their platforms and see some hidden architecture while experiencing how the citizens use the train on their everyday commute.
From the Gran Via, we will visit the oldest restaurant of the city and we might have a break there. We will talk about its history and architecture, as well as the history of the entire area. (coffee break optional)
We'll visit one of the most popular squares of the New City, with the Diputacion Palace and its library. We'll have the chance to try some of the best pintxos of the city.
We'll enter to the most important public building and culture centre of Bilbao, our pride and joy beloved Alhoniga. We'll visit a lot of galleries there with a lot of hidden gems.
We will reach this very busy and central square in order to experience the Metro station which we'll use to reach our next destination.
We will visit the Athletic Football team stadium in which we'll have a coffee break while enjoying the stadium.
