    Bertha's Beach

Bertha’s Beach is home to a thriving colony of over 800 Gentoo penguins, which can be observed in their natural habitat as they nest, waddle along the shore and dive into the waters. Other species, including Magellanic and occasionally King penguins, may also be spotted. The surrounding waters frequently attract Commerson’s and Peale’s dolphins. The area also hosts a variety of seabirds and coastal flora, including over 80 species of flowering plants, five of which are endemic to the Falkland Islands.

    Gypsy Cove

Gypsy Cove is a beautiful place located just 4 miles from Stanley and as such, it is the most accessible wildlife site from the city. It is part of the Cape Pembroke peninsula which is a National Nature Reserve. The cove is known for its stunning white sand beach and sheltered bay, making it a great place to visit. One of the main attractions at Gypsy Cove is the colony of Magellanic penguins, also known as Jackass because of their braying sounds, breed here, nesting underground in burrows. There are more than just penguins to see here, some of the other birdlife that you may sight whilst visiting Gypsy Cove includes black-crowned night-herons, oystercatchers, long-tailed meadowlark, two-banded plovers, Falklands flightless steamer duck, upland and kelp geese. Sometimes you may even get to see some Sea lions as they occasionally visit. In addition to the wildlife, there are historical remnants from World War II, including old gun emplacements at nearby Ordinance Point.

    Lady Elizabeth Shipwreck

Lying at the east end of Stanley Harbour is Stanley's most imposing and iconic shipwreck. Known as Lady Liz, the ship was launched ain Sunderland in the UK in 1879 and suffered damage whilst rounding Cape Horn in 1913. She limped into Stanley for repairs but the high cost prevented any being carried out. After various moorings in Stanley Harbour, a violent gale in 1936 forced the Lady Liz into her current resting place. Cape Pembroke Lighthouse

Built in 1855 the 18m/59ft tall lighthouse is located on the most easterly point of the Falkland Islands. For many years the lighthouse was the most southerly manned lighthouse in the world If you're lucky you may spot dolphins, peregrine falcons and whales. Our favourite place to enjoy a spot of lunch away from others.
