Authentic Uruguayan Roast Experience in Montevideo

3 hours (approximately)

Enter a local home in Montevideo and I lived an authentic Uruguayan asado, one of the most important traditions of the country, in an intimate, warm and real atmosphere.

From the moment you arrive, you will be welcomed as a guest, not a tourist. While the fire is lit with wood and charcoal, you can enjoy good music and a drink, and experience the roast ritual as Uruguayans live it.

You’ll see up close how the traditional roast is prepared, learn about cuts of meat and discover the secrets of slow cooking over coals, which gives it that unique and unmistakable flavor.

More than dinner, this is a cultural experience. Share stories, conversations and local customs, giving you an authentic connection to life in Uruguay.

This is a time to relax, enjoy, and feel part of a true Uruguayan gathering.

What to expect

I lived a real Uruguayan roast in a local house in Montevideo, away from restaurants and close to authentic culture.

You will be greeted with a welcome drink as we light the fire with firewood and charcoal, just as Uruguayans do. You’ll discover the history of roasting, why it’s so important in culture and how it slowly cooks meat over the coals.

You can see the whole process up close, learn about the different traditional cuts and feel the aroma of the fire as the meat cooks in time.

Then, you will sit down to enjoy a full roast that includes different cuts of beef, chorizos, fresh bread and homemade accompaniments, accompanied by wine or local beer.

But this is much more than a meal. It is a real experience: you will share stories, music and conversations, as in any typical Uruguayan gathering.

You will also meet Rocco, the friendly four-legged host, who is part of the experience and is always happy to welcome visitors.

In the end, you can relax with dessert

This is not a staged tourist experience. It's a real roast, in a real home, with a local host.
