Basic course of gilding on paper in Venice

3 hours (approximately)

Do you want to experience Venice in an authentic way, away from all the same tourist experiences? What if for once, instead of running from place to place, you stopped to do something with your own hands?

Gilding is a slow and gentle technique, which naturally invites you to be in the moment. Applying the gold leaf requires only attention to the gesture : and it is precisely in that gesture that one finds oneself, reconnecting with oneself in a completely spontaneous way. You don't need any experience; you just need the desire to stop.

In a contemporary artisan atelier in the heart of Venice, a stone's throw from the Rialto, you will learn the basics of gold leaf gilding : an ancient art handed down by a real artisan who practices it every day. Not a demonstration, not a ready-made kit but an experience where you really work with your hands and find yourself, and then go home with a unique creation that tells something about you.

Maximum 4 participants per session, to ensure everyone the necessary attention

At the end of the course, each participant will be served an aperitif in the atelier : a glass of prosecco and some snacks to relax and celebrate together the creations just made.

What to expect

Come and spend a different afternoon with Stefania Dei Rossi in her Oro & Disegni atelier in Venice to learn gold leaf gilding on paper : an ancient art practiced in the city for centuries, transmitted by a real artisan who works and lives in Venice, all while immersed in a contemporary workshop context.

The course begins with a brief theoretical and historical introduction to gold leaf production and gilding: origins of the technique, materials, tools. Then we get right to the heart of it: each participant embellishes with imitation gold leaf a print specially made for the course by Stefania Dei Rossi, reproducing the pencil stroke of her original drawings. Every step is guided, but everyone proceeds at their own pace: the goal is not perfection, but the pleasure of gesture and concentration that only manual work can give.

The course ends with an aperitif in the atelier. For those who want to continue gilding at home, a complete kit with the same tools as the course will be available for purchase.
Duration: about 2.5 to 3 hours. Places: minimum 2, maximum 4 per session. Materials and aperitif included.
