Step into the world of gin making at the York Distillery's Gin School, where you'll craft your very own unique bottle of gin. The experience kicks off with a refreshing York Gin G&T, followed by a mini tasting of gins, plus an exploration of a range of botanicals to discover your favourite flavours.

Guided by WSET-qualified gin tutors, you'll learn the art of distillation and the fascinating history of gin. As you create your spirit, you'll learn more about the fun and dark history of this most interesting of spirits.

Take home your bespoke 700ml bottle of gin and the knowledge to appreciate gins like never before.

How to find us: Go along Skeldergate - it's not the main entrance to Middleton's hotel. The entrance is through the small raised bed garden on Skeldergate, (shared with Emperor's Gym). Go through the garden and turn immediately to your left. We are just down the steps.

What to expect

Join us at York Distillery for a guided tasting and hands-on gin-making experience. Select your own botanicals, distil a personalised 700ml bottle to take home, and enjoy a welcome drink while learning about the craft and history of gin.

With a York Gin gin and tonic in hand, we’ll give you an insight into how we started, show you our full production still and explain our production process to give you a feel for distillation.

We’ll then take you on a guided tasting of our core gins to help you understand your palette, discover the styles of gin you prefer and also your favourite botanicals.

You’re then ready to learn the art of distilling gin. Guided through choosing your own botanicals, weighing each of them and distilling your own unique bottle to take home in a beautiful copper still.
