Discover the magical night side of Mount Ikoma on this intimate 2-hour small group (6 people max) night tour.
Begin your adventure with a ride on Japan’s oldest commercial cable car up the mountain to Hozanji Temple. Wander through the beautifully illuminated temple grounds, ancient stone stairways, and sacred halls while soaking in the breathtaking panoramic night view of the Nara Basin sparkling below.
After descending by cable car, enjoy a peaceful evening walk from Ikoma Shinchi through the historic Monzenmachi. Pass a small Inari Shrine and stroll along the nostalgic old streets and charming pilgrimage path.
At the end of the walk, your guide will recommend 1–2 cozy local izakayas according to your preferences. The tour ends at Ikoma Station or near your chosen restaurant.
This is a perfect way to experience the spiritual and authentic local side of Nara after dark — peaceful, atmospheric, and far from the usual tourist crowds.

Tour End The tour finishes at Kintetsu Ikoma Station or directly at one of the local izakayas/restaurants in the Motomachi area, depending on your preference. If you choose the Izakaya Hopping option, you can end the night comfortably at the last venue.
Kintetsu Ikoma Cable Car (Toriimae to Hozanji Station) Ride Japan's oldest commercial cable car (opened in 1928) up the steep slopes of Mount Ikoma. This charming funicular takes you directly to Hozanji Temple Station. Enjoy scenic mountain views and the unique retro atmosphere of the cable cars (some are decorated with cute animal themes). Short ride: approx. 5 minutes.
Ikoma Shinchi (Old Entertainment District) A quiet, nostalgic former entertainment area near Ikoma Station. With only a few remaining ryokans, restaurants, and izakayas, it offers a peaceful night walk through retro streets and a glimpse of everyday local life in Ikoma.
Hozanji Temple is a historic mountain temple located halfway up Mount Ikoma, famous for its atmospheric grounds and unique architecture. During this night tour, we will explore the main temple area including the impressive Shōten Hall (Kangiten), stone stairways, and beautifully illuminated buildings. Note: We will not visit Okunoin (the inner sanctuary) during the night tour due to safety and darkness. If you would like to see Okunoin, your guide will offer free time so you can visit at your own pace (please note it requires a separate short walk uphill).
Evening Walk: Ikoma Motomachi to Ikoma Station Stroll through the quiet old streets of Ikoma Motomachi, a nostalgic residential and shopping area. On the way, we will stop at a small Inari Shrine. Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and walk along the charming old road while taking in the beautiful night view of the Nara Basin.
