Cultural Exploration & Safari — Six Days on the Slopes of Kilimanjaro
Experience Kilimanjaro not as a summit to conquer, but as a living landscape shaped by centuries of Chagga tradition, stunning scenery, and roaming wildlife.
Based at Chagga Village, expert guides lead you into the heart of East African life. Hike to Materuni Waterfall, explore an ancient underground cave, float in the geothermal waters of Kikuletwa Hot Spring, and track giraffes, buffalo, and Colobus monkeys across Arusha National Park.
Then comes the culture — brewing mbege (banana beer), watching the ancient mfereji (irrigation channel) still flowing, and feasting on slow-roasted ndafu (goat) as dancers and storytellers bring the evening alive.
Your adventure begins the moment you land.
We will be waiting for you at the arrivals hall. Your driver will be holding a sign that reads "Chagga Village".
Upon landing at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met by one of our staff members. After a warm meet and greet, they will escort you to your lodge in Moshi — approximately 60 km from the airport — ensuring you are well settled and ready for the tour ahead.
After breakfast at the lodge, one of our staff will drive you to Chagga Village, about 6 km away, where you will be welcomed with a traditional Chagga dance performance and introduced to your guide for a briefing on the day's activities. The morning features a scenic hike to the river and a visit to the mfereji — a centuries-old irrigation channel — along with rich interaction with local community members. A Chagga-inspired lunch follows the river hike. The afternoon brings an onsite guided tour of the Chagga hut, a curated exhibition of local artefacts and historical items, and hands-on demonstrations of mbege (banana beer) brewing and traditional coffee-making, all accompanied by vibrant Chagga dance. One of our staff will escort you back to your lodge at the end of the day.
After breakfast, your guide will pick you up around 9 am for the drive to Materuni Waterfall, approximately 12 km away. A half-hour hike through fertile farmlands, charming villages, and forested trails leads to the waterfall. After the visit, you will return to Chagga Village for lunch before heading to explore an ancient underground Chagga Cave — a remarkable and memorable finale to the day before returning to your lodge.
An early breakfast precedes a prompt 8:30 am departure for Arusha National Park, about an hour and a half's drive. A packed lunch and soft drinks will be provided during game viewing. One of Tanzania's most rewarding wilderness areas, Arusha National Park is home to the rare black-and-white Colobus monkey, giraffes, buffalo, and flamingoes, with magnificent views of Mount Meru rising above the savannah. After a full day of game viewing, you will drive back to Chagga Village for a delicious dinner before returning to your lodge.
After breakfast, your guide will collect you at 10 am for the drive to Kikuletwa Hot Spring, about an hour away. Enjoy a rejuvenating swim in this natural oasis of crystal-clear geothermal waters surrounded by lush greenery, along with a picnic lunch on its banks. The evening returns to Chagga Village for the Ndafu Feast — a celebration of roasted goat, storytelling, mbege tasting, and vibrant live Chagga dance in the true spirit of Chagga tradition.
Enjoy a final breakfast at the lodge before checking out. One of our staff will then drive you to Chagga Village for a farewell lunch, drinks, and photographs to mark the end of an unforgettable journey before your transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport
